Decorating Hang-ups

It never ceases to amaze me how long and difficult decorating is. We looked for a corner computer armoire for nearly two months. I searched stores and the internet easily 10+ hours worth of time. We FINALLY find one on ebay, purchase it, love it, but now need some office accessories to go with it. That was back in November. I have searched stores and the internet off and on now since December, when our armoire arrived, looking for desk organizers and a small drawer organizer to go on top of the armoire. That took at least another 8+ hours of time. This morning I find this online at IKEA!

It measures 27"h, 16" depth, 11"W. PERFECT and LOVE, LOVE the color. Price? 30.99$. It says that there is assemblage required, no biggy, so I place my order...shipping and handling cost? 250.00!!! Oh something's GOT to be wrong.;)

So I go back through my order and look for the shipping rates. UPS ground shipping 5-7 days delivery states, $18.95. Okay! much better, but I read across the grid and see that special deliveries for my area ARE INDEED around 250+ dollars. So I give IKEA a call and they tell me the drawer unit is only broken down so much that UPS WON'T ship, so yes, $250.00 will be the charge.

"Oh NO IT WON"T!" I tell the service rep and tell them, "You've just lost a costumer!"

How on this Green Earth can they charge that much and not even blink an eye when I tell them they've just lost a costumer? Seriously!? That's a problem.

And I'm still stuck with my problem of finding desk organizers. So infuriating!

Amy said...: Diana,I wish I could! I was able to get a hold of a friend who is in Utah for the week and she's going to look in to picking me up one. So all is not lost yet. Fall Felt Flower Wreath

Items Needed:
12" Styrofoam wreath
20 - 24 felt sheets from the craft store
fabric scissors
glue gun (with plenty of sticks)
berry sprigs, garland, whatever you can find for cheep

Note on flowers: After cutting the spiral I rolled my flower up with out glueing. I added a dab of hot-melt at the end. I did not put a felt circle bottom on the flower either. I just went with gusto on the glue and stuck it to the wreath ;) That's crafting my way.

Method: First I cut two and a half of my felt sheets into one inch strips. Spiraling the strips around my wreath I glued them to the styrofoam surface. Next I went to work on the flowers.

For the Three largest flowers I simply cut the spiral and then loosily "swirled" it and added hot-melt wherever needed. I cut three sizes of flowers (5 in, 4in, and 2 in) That made something like 8 large, 12 medium, and a gazillion small flowers (don't worry you'll need them). After making all my flowers I went about arranging them. That's the hardest part for me. AND the nice part for you since you can put them anywhere you want. In the end I decided I wanted My focal spot to be the bottom right "corner" of the wreath.

I started with gluing the three large flowers first. I then snipped off a few berry's and glued them in the centers. Then I just worked out from there, using the 5in flowers to get me going out away from the focal flowers. Because I used five colors in my wreath (sage green, berry, tan, chocolate, and mustard) I tried to not only work with the right size where I needed it but also tried not to have the same color ever touching. With five colors it was easier to accomplish this than I thought. One thing I learned was to periodically lift my project up to make sure I was covering enough surface area that I didn't see the skin of on the inside or the outside of the wreath.

Voila! Ready to hang.
